SAFE, DRUG FREE PAIN RELIEF….TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE??

My knee hurts! My heels hurt when I get up in the morning!! My hip aches if I sleep on my right side. Sound familiar? Pain in your joints or muscles can really limit your lifestyle. All of us experience pain at some point. Hopefully, the pain is short lived or is managed quickly. As pain persists, it becomes harder to treat secondary to the compensations that typically occur. Pain that has lasted longer than three months is considered to be chronic and some begin to feel as if that there is nothing that can help. Don’t give up until you have tried Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) for persistent pain! Although Laser therapy does not work for everyone, it has been shown to be a very successful option for treatment in more chronic conditions that affect muscles, joints, and nerves in the body.

WHAT IS LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Low level laser, or cold laser, is a therapeutic, nonsurgical, medical grade class 3b laser that non-invasively and painlessly, penetrates 3 to 5 inches deep in to the body with visible and non-visible light. The injured area is targeted to stimulate a new healing cycle. This occurs as the injured cells are stimulated to increase mobility of swelling or edema which takes pressure off of the injured tissues. The pain fibers in nerves are also stimulated which decreases the firing rate of the nerves which decreases pain as well.

HOW LONG DO THE TREATMENTS TAKE?

Treatments are fast and effective. The treatments are cumulative in that each one is more effective than the last. Each session of laser last about 6-10 minutes, depending on the size of the area to be treated. It is not uncommon to pair laser treatments with more fundamental physical therapy interventions. Each case is unique and your therapist will advise you as to the best course of care.

IS IT SAFE?

The FDA approved Low Level Laser Therapy in 2005 as a safe treatment. Because this treatment involves visible and non-visible light, with a frequency of 830 nanometers, we take care to protect your eyes during the delivery of the treatment. As with most electrical treatments, we always avoid the areas around your heart as a safety precaution. There are no known ill effects, including side effects, with treatment to the spine or extremities.

IS THIS JUST LIKE A TENS UNIT OR ULTRASOUND?

No, not at all. Ultrasound is a form of heat therapy and TENS units are designed to dull or mask pain. The lasers that we use do not produce heat and are fabricated to help in repairing the cells in your body giving off the pain signals.
